Darkfall Online: Unholy Wars BETA!

Today is the day, tu tu tu.... tu, tu tu tu... tu, tu tu tu... tu, etc...

Today is the day for DF:UW NDA beta or another delay. I think we will get a bit of both... a bad beta launch or semi-delays which will take it into the high a.m.'s (nothing that 1 or 2 days won't fix).

Although the pre-order process went very smoothly, I still think they don't present their menu options in the most intuitive way. BUT I managed to pre-order which is much more than I managed to do in the original launch of Darkfall, where I spent 2 weeks F5ing to try and purchase an account.

I reserved my nick 'Thaliost Riverblade' so as to strike fear in the hearts of my enemies! ... lol

After downloading the dfuw.exe file, I wasn't able to login which was due to the 'Server error: NetSSLError'. Checking forums, this appears to be a problem with Windows 7 64bit, and is fixed by downloading Service Pack 1 from Microsoft. Which I did to the tune of 900 mb (but it d/l really quickly).

The lobby worked and started patching up for 1 whole day. I have version 1.9.0.1 or something like that and a DFUW folder of 6.12GB.

Cyaz in-game or not :D

[EU] Immortals are also recruiting. We have like 40 members for darkfall and are allied with another clan. Check us out at www.immortals-online.eu

If there is another delay, many of us are playing Dota2, while hearing on mumble: dota dota dota dota dota dota dota dota dota, etc. to brighten up the day!

Remember, remember, the 20th of November! (of 2012) (which will be a Tuesday) ... (which is probably a good thing so they have enough week days to sort out any problems) ... (which knowing AV, are bound to take place) ... (but it's OK because Greece isn't doing so good and I don't mind giving them money for the game)

Away on Vacations & Blog Statistics

Yes, it is true, 3 whole weeks and I deserve them! Because I work... a lot! during the rest of the year! When I am not playing Darkfall and reading Forumfall and typing posts for the blog and... I work a lot!!!

These vacations from DF also come at a very good time because I can't keep up with EU1 Clan Discussion forums with the amount of posts that keep popping up! You know, with that APEX, ZAGENDA and apparently RA thingy.

As I will be mostly away from the city where I live and where my super desktop is located, I won't be playing much Darkfall. I'll take my laptop with me but I think I will only log in to pay rent in my beautiful house in Quica village (still have an Ildstein to sell in the vendor by the way - material for the r80 Greataxe; the radian stell already got sold).

As the blog was started a semi-decent amount of time ago, despite all the cancellation periods in-between, I thought it would be interesting to post the STATISTICS that the blog has gotten to date.

Notes: The statistics are "page views" and not "unique visitors" and they are a bit biased towards Portugal because that is where I hail from and thus, I inflate the view counts.

DanesLaw tried to steal Immortals' Home o_O

Two days ago, we were lying around Gulghat when someone suggested playing a game of Mafia in Starcraft 2. I havent played SC2 in a long long long while, but I'm told this game of Mafia is different than the usual. I patch up my SC2 and there I go to play Mafia for the first time with 3 other Immortals and 21 other random strangers.

The game is quite funny, even if I still haven't fully understood it. There are Towns People, Mafia baddies and I think neutral people. The objective goes more or less like this: Mafia has to kill everyone non-Mafia and everyone else has to kill the Mafia. Then you can chat with people to try and save your skin and vote to hang someone. But anyways, when we are in the middle of this game, we get a warning from a clan mate that we have just been siege declared by DanesLaw O.O

We quickly leave SC2, ruining the other 21 strangers' game, and log in to Darkfall again. We look for the siegestones (2 large), and find them north of the city on the mountains and no signs of vikings anywhere. I've got to get up early in the morning to go to work but there I stay up until almost 2 am getting ready bags (ready) and dueling/doing other stuff thats needs doing. These sieges stirr up emotions which make Darkfall such a great game and that kept me up longer than I should have. I mean, these nordic savages want to steal and pillage our home and only city?!?! .p

Hello Bourgeoisie lifestyle!

Picking up on my last entry... I rode from Ottenhal chaos city to Ghulgat, Immortal's city on the eastern side of Agon. As I rode there, I found one chaos chest on my way. But this chaos chest was special... it gave me the only good thing I have ever gotten from a chaos chest: a house deed :D a.k.a ticket to a vendor with exorbitantly priced items for sale!

For those of you who don't know, a house deed enables you to "capture" a vacant house in one of the many villages. The ranking system of housing is (from smallest to largest): cottage, house, villa, large villa and keep. So it's not the best but at least it isn't the peasentry cottage!

I know that houses are somewhat vacant nowadays... before, they used to be all taken up and when one was about to get vacant, there was a lot of PvP to capture it, as they were highly valued. They sold for 1-3 millions (I think) so it wasn't something that would naturally be opened to me. But due to a lower population, there are vacant houses here and there which means HELLO WINDOWS AND CURTAINS!

Back to the riding...

Clan developments (Immortals) and Iklits Dungeon

[these events took place 2 weeks ago because I am a slacker (except irl job, there I'm brilliant... really!!)]

So, there I am... all alone, besides chaos bank, in sweet Ottenhal...

My 2 clan mates are away for different reasons: one stopped playing after 1 day of Darkfall and the other is on a 1-week long vacation, abandoning me to be PKed freely! :(

Thankfully, I have some old friends who also resubscribed recently, from Eqvilibrivm Order (old Bluefield's Treaty Alliance) times, with whom I have reconnected.

One of them is blue and bound in a human city, the other is red and bound in the southern chaos-city of Espenhal (but she's praying faithfully everyday to get back on god's good graces!). So, on a lonely week-day evening, I joined their mumble and we arranged to go to a dungeon with Tomb Iklits. These mobs only do melee and only take melee damage. They are toughish to kill but if you are with at least 1 more person, you can melee haste/heal each other and it's easy to kill them.

Dungeon Awesome!

[these are events that took place in the beginning of last week]

I hadn't mentioned it before: I'm living in Ottenhal chaos city (located north east of centre Agon). I have very fond memories of the place because when I was in Wanted clan and we lived there for 1 or 2 weeks, we had a great time.

And the reasons I liked it back then remain the same ones as to why I'm liking it today: it is well located for mobs and dungeons, there is a friendly atmosphere around the bank (friendly might be too strong a word...) and something tends to happen every day (mostly some raids though rare they may be). I think the other chaos cities, at least the one to the south of the centre, is much more bloodthirsty and combat is prone to happen much more around the bank (just the other day when i was there some stupid naked guy who had just respawned in the chaos stone, went to the bank, got a dawnrazor sword and killed me while I was wearing robes... this would be unthinkable in dear sweet Ottenhal :D).

I see a lot of The Mithril Brootherhood around the place but they never attacked me so they're cool cats on my book .p Tried talking with one of them but he never replied, which lead me to wonder if the clan was one of those russian blobs i keep reading about in the forums. I've also read or heard that the russian blob is red army but by this time, my brain is already hurting so I don't try to get to the bottom of this mysterious russian blob.

So, the inhabitans of Ottenhall don't attack each other inside the city which makes it a very agreeable place to live in (it has a love boat feel to it).

Back to the story and eventually to explain the reason of the entry title...

Founding the Clan and life as a Red

So, after my initial incursion in-game in the dwarf lands, I went out-game to take a few breaths and posted back and forth on Duchy of Wessex's forums, about starting our own clan in Darkfall.

Just a short introduction as to why I'm registered on the Duchy's forums: During Darkfall beta (and before), I was a member of the 'Fist of Europe' clan, which was a vassal clan for Kirdain, which was an ally of the Duchy of Wessex and member of the Kingdom of Wessex (I think I'm getting all the terminologies right!). Good times when the vassal of the ally of the vassal of the vassal still managed to have 25 members. Nowadays, we would be a power house!!

So, even though I wasn't a member of the Duchy per se, I was registered in their forums and always kept more or less, note of them and their developments. The whole idea is very interesting to me, to RP a medieval society with different types of bonds and realities that only a game like Darkfall, despite all its flaws (which have been diminished considerably since launch in my opinion) and short comings regarding clan management/personalization, could provide a setting for.

Following a mass email from Manus, I went to check the forums once again and there I found a few people still interested in the Duchy and interested in playing Darkfall 1.0. In conclusion, myself, Duncan Brockmoore and Ormal Nehutvc, founded the Duchy of Wessex in Darkfall EU1. Duncan and Ormal were old members of the Duchy who had stopped playing a long time ago.

In short, we're trying to get a little something something going.

Me and Duncan are red, so we have to live bound to chaos cities and chaos bindstones and Ormal started a new human character.

Darkfall Comeback! [EU1 Server]

So, I went ahead and resubscribed to Darkfall.

Receiving both the promotion e-mail from Aventurine with the lower subscription price + 20x leveling, plus the mass email from Duke Manus of Wessex, got me reading again and getting hyped.

There is no MMORPG like Darkfall (yet) and having stopped playing 1 year ago, I decided to jump in again, and drunk on Saturday night, resubscribed.
